CURATORIAL STATEMENT
On the heels of the removal of the Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C., and other recent threats to symbols of joyful resistance, The World Can't Take It Away offers this timely assertion: Black Joy is more than brick-and-mortar symbols; it is an eternal and internal GUIDE that transforms the impact of oppression and events. The vibrant works of these artists remind us that joy is a source of power that protects spirits and emotions and is the source of LONGEVITY.
